VOIP – Talk Easy, Without Worry About Money

March 29th, 2010

Those were still the early days of the entry of VOIP in the market. Still an esoteric term to many of us. Not so much today. Once feared and revered as an elite technology that only the experts could make head or tail of, it has of today, become an organic mass system of means of communication. It would not be an overstatement to say that VOIP is leading the way in digital communication.

To cut through the rhetoric, what we know is that VOIP refers to Voice over Internet Protocol. This technology converts spoken sounds into digital signals. This allows the voice to be transmitted over a network such as the internet. Your voice is transmitted as sound data packets across the internet to the receiver at the other end. The internet should be broadband or high speed connection. Apart from this, you will require a cable modem or other means of wireless services, a phone equipped with this facility or a special software inside it for this purpose.

There are also a few minor problems with these services such as failure to function during a power outage, especially as when your service provider may not offer backup power for these situations.

VOIP technology has revolutionised the way calls are being made and billed around the world.
It has made talking to anyone around the world as easy as surfing the internet. and this means of telephony often costs you nothing more than than the rate of a local phone call.

Certain things to be kept in mind while using this service: Your service provider may charge you for calls outside your area, so make sure to check the terms of service for the same. You may also avail these services at flat rates as offered by some providers to be able to make long-distance calls at the lowest rates you would have ever imagined. These services may be availed with either your traditional handset phone or with a microphone over the Internet.

Accessibility at economic rates is no more an issue with VOIP.

VoIP – Simply a Superb Technology

November 21st, 2009

Revolutionising the system of voice communication, VoIP has emerged as a smooth and cheap way of telephony now. It is a technology that allows you to make international calls at a much lower rate in comparison to the other traditional means of communication. In order to avail the benefits of this technology, all you need to have is a PC, an Internet connection and a few other minor accessories.

Apart from making calls at a lower rate, you can do a number of other things with VoIP. It will facilitate you to build an in-house phone network for your office. You can even create a world-wide network with your distant business partners. This technology can further be used to stay connected with others while on the move. It will necessitate proper equipment like a mobile satellite Internet connection.

Another great thing about VoIP technology is that you can make and receive phone calls through it, without disturbing your normal Internet browsing. Most of the networks that use this technology ensure that all incoming phone calls come automatically to your phone through the computer which you are using, no matter where you are. This means you will not miss personal calls at work and you will not miss business calls at home.

Like any other technology, VoIP also has its share of disadvantages. It can cause you a headache if you do not have a good set up. Another disadvantage that many users report is that they experience “echo” when making and receiving calls. However, experts say much of this problem depends upon the user.

Another potential disadvantage is that there can be a slight lag at the beginning of the conversation. The last problem that VoIP users may face is that it operates through the Internet. This means that if you get out of Internet service for power-cut or any other reason, you will not have phone access until the service is restored. Minus all these minor issues, VoIP can be a superb means of communication.

VoIP – The Technology That Keeps You Talking

November 12th, 2009

For quite some time since its inception, the Internet was nothing more than a virtual platform for people to meet and communicate with each other in a non-verbal fashion. Apart from bringing the whole world closer through chat rooms and emails, there wasn’t much that the Internet could do to connect users verbally. This scenario changed with the entry of the VoIP technology that gave users a much needed verbal communication platform.

As far as the development is concerned from a manufacturer’s point of view, it is just another usual turn of events. However, users have a different story to tell about the VoIP technology, which has actually narrowed the distance between them and their friends to a great extent. Internet users can now talk to their friends and relatives over Internet telephones or VoIP phones, to be precise through this technology.

The VoIP technology works on the calculation of transmitting voice calls over the Internet or through an IP based network. Through this technology, two kinds of phone services are available in the form of regular telephone adapter based VoIP phones and software based VoIP phones. The former can be used to make and receive calls to and from any phone, while the software based VoIP phones need a computer to transmit the voice signals.

To enjoy the benefits of the VoIP technology, all you need is a broadband Internet connection or your regular telephone that is connected to an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) given by the provider to get going. With several impressive options laid out through this technology in the form of voice mails, caller ID, call forwarding, etc., VoIP phone users stand to gain a lot.
